Hmong Innovating Politics

Established in 2012, HIP is a non-partisan grassroots organization focused on empowering historically disenfranchised communities and building lasting influence to ensure a more socially and economically just democracy. We integrate traditional community organizing and mobilization strategies with comprehensive mass voter engagement to help local residents understand the profound impact they can have on public policies that affect them and their families. Moreover, we build agency among young people and women to help them understand their power and provide tools that prepare them to take on leadership roles.

Mission

HIP celebrates diversity, embraces innovation, values empowering young people and partners with those who share our passion for improving communities.

Needs

In order to realize our vision of a socially and economically just democracy, HIP specializes in grassroots mobilization that utilizes direct voter contact and base building strategies. Our efforts target historically disenfranchised residents who have been ignored by decision makers or falsely characterized as apathetic. By removing barriers to voting, developing culturally and linguistically appropriate voter education materials, and empowering young people--we are ready to make voices heard!

Young people make up the largest proportion of our community. We believe young people are our future, but they are also our present. Their voices and their vision are essential to the progress of our community. HIP is committed to creating spaces for young people to thrive and to give them the tools to impact their community.

From fighting school closures, to advancing support for English Learner students, to advocacy for Ethnic Studies; HIP is proud to stand for educational equity! We believe our communities can rise by overcoming the significant education disparities that communities of color face. Our efforts include helping immigrant parents navigate the school system and advocating for policies that improve education outcomes for our young people.

There are various communication tools that we want to access to increase efficiency in our work and how we engage with the community. These funds will be used towards fees that will allow HIP to stay updated in our latest communication methods via social media, website, newsletters, member database, and blogs. Additionally, it will be used for different media platforms such as radio ads and television commercials.

As HIP grows its organizing base, unrestricted funds enable HIP to host our annual retreats to develop and maintain the leadership of its governing body and staff. In addition, HIP is committed to fostering HIP organizers and staff in their professional development. These funds will help HIP send staff and organizers to professional development workshops, training, and conferences.
