Hello family and friends!
It is my second year running my own group campaign for our region’s Big Day of Giving, powered by the Sacramento Region Community Foundation (my workplace!).
This year, I continue to highlight organizations that are grassroots and volunteer-led while working with limited resources. In addition, these organizations are stepping up to meet some of our community’s greatest needs. I have worked with or crossed paths with each of these organizations in one way or another, and they are doing really meaningful work.
A minimum donation is $10 so please give what you can where you can.
Thank you all so much for your support and for taking the time to give!
Here is more information about the missions of my chosen organizations -
Washington Neighborhood Center: Offers culturally grounded programs in arts, education, and wellness that center youth development and community connection. They provide a bilingual, bicultural space where residents can access creative learning opportunities, participate in cultural traditions, and build community through shared programs and events.
NorCal Resist: Supports immigrants, refugees, and undocumented communities through legal services, community organizing, and rapid response efforts. They also advance immigrant justice by providing deportation defense, advocacy, and resources that help people stay with their families and live safely in their communities.
Bishop Gallegos Maternity Home: Provides safe, stable housing and compassionate support for pregnant and parenting women in crisis, helping them develop parenting skills, access resources, and build a path toward long-term independence for themselves and their children.
Alchemist CDC: Connects communities to land, food, and opportunity through equitable food systems that support health, culture, and economic stability. They also increase access to fresh, locally grown food and support food entrepreneurs and workers through training, kitchen access, and workforce development while investing in community spaces and advocacy.
Animal Outreach of the Mother Lode: Improves the lives of animals and their owners by providing accessible veterinary care, shelter, and adoption services. They serve thousands of cats and dogs each year through low-cost clinics, rescue, and foster programs, including care for animals with special needs. Currently, the organization is expanding to increase access to affordable care and create a modern, safe shelter environment for animals in need.
Lavender Library: Collects, preserves, and shares materials in a safe, welcoming space while promoting understanding of gender and sexual diversity. They also document and archive the history, stories, and cultural contributions of the Sacramento community for current and future generations.
