The Friends of the Granite Bay Library was formed in 1990 and received its tax-exempt exempt status in 1995. The first goal of the organization was to bring a library facility to the Granite Bay community. The existing Granite Bay Branch was a small, rented storefront in a local shopping center. Working closely with the Placer County Library System, "The Friends" raised $50,000 to start the project. Land was purchased and an Architect was hired, and our new library opened on May 20, 1995. Over the years we have endeavored to engage the community in supporting the Granite Bay Library to foster a lifelong love of reading, providing an environment for learning, creating, and developing literary skills.
Our guiding principles are:
β’Being the voice and the pulse of our community and communicating its needs to the library.
β’Building alliances and reaching out to our local schools, service nonprofits, businesses, and county representatives to help bring the community together.
β’Building a greater realization of the importance of the library to the community.
β’Sharing a mutual enthusiasm for reading, literacy and books in general.
β’Encouraging the use of the library facilities, resources and services by all community members.
