The theatre festival was founded in 1983 by a group of local business and community leaders that recognized the value of the little-used Veterans Memorial Amphitheater. They became a non-profit, public benefit corporation in 1984. The Fair Oaks Theatre Festival has since become a yearly tradition responsive to the need for cultural activities in the northeast regional area of Sacramento County. The Festival began by producing Shakespeare's comedies and, by audience request, has transitioned to mainly musical comedies. The Festival has also produced original works: 'Great Songs of the Sky', 'The Jazzbirds', 'Puss in Boots', and a musical version of 'She Stoops to Conquer' featuring the music of Mozart. The outdoor atmosphere provides play-goers with a comfortable, casual, and safe setting. The Festival provides reduced rate tickets for children, students, and seniors; along with complimentary tickets to disabled and disadvantaged patrons.
FOTF must now expand our operating budget to include additional costs for costumes, printing, a costumer, director, and stage manager for our second production. We are also looking forward to upgrading the upper floor of the concessions building to include an indoor rehearsal space and storage room for costumes.

Our long term vision is to renovate the forty year old amphitheater into a new stage house that retains the outdoor stage but includes a new year-round performance space, dressing rooms, and lobby.
Our top needs:
  1. Technology - Replacement of aging equipment for sound and lighting.
  2. Funding: Unrestricted - In order to meet our immediate goal of increasing our production quality, we are looking to expand our potential pool of professional designers, directors, and technical staff. Simultaneously, we are seeking to implement a comprehensive plan to expand and update our aging performance facilities.
  3. Board Members - Individuals with a love for Theatre. Knowledge of fundraising, social media, and/or marketing.
  4. Volunteers - Various duties during season's performances, fundraising events, and committees.
  5. Funding: Program - Funding to improve our July performances for children. Saturdays in July, we produce a play for children that introduces our young audience to live theatre and allows audience participation. Ticket prices are very reasonable in order to encourage attendance by families. Additional funding will enable us to improve the quality of the plays we produce each season.
The Fair Oaks Theatre Festival (FOTF) represents the finest aspects of true community theatre: Affordable, quality entertainment that results from Beth Duggan, Artistic Director.
