On May 3, our region will light up with activity! Every year there are dozens of events region-wide during Big Day of Giving, from block parties to live rehearsals to brewery parties. There will be something for everyone! Check back often as we begin to add details to this page.

Broadway Coffee Supports Sick & Injured Families
Organization: Kiwanis Family House

Description: Kiwanis Family House will display guest family stories and other marketing material to promote our charitable services.  Last year, Mix 96 radio was on site and the on-air personalities promoted Big Day of Giving, Kiwanis Family House, and Broadway Coffee during the event period.  

Big Day of Giving Kickoff Breakfast

Description: On Thursday, May 3rd, Sacramento Children's Home will host its Second Annual Big Day of Giving Kickoff Breakfast at Casa Garden Restaurant. Donors, volunteers, and prospective donors are invited to take part in this fun and festive kickoff to the BIG DAY. RSVP's are required and can be made by emailing info@kidshome.org.

Walk with Friends: BDOG Kick Off

Description: Start the Big Day of Giving 2018 off right with Health Education Council and a Walk with Friends! This 1 hour walk around Robla Park will be led by our friendly walking, talking Fruits and Vegetables and will feature giveaways and other fun activities. This kid-friendly event is a great way to be a part of the community spirit that Makes Health Happen in the Sacramento region.

Glass Slipper Scavenger Hunt!

Help Grow the California Garden

Description: The California Garden Project will be at Green Acres Nursery & Supply, Sacramento to provide information on The California Garden and receive input from the Greater Sacramento Region on what they would like to see in a world-class, sustainable, botanical garden. There will be a drawing at the end of the day for a $100 Green Acres gift certificate. We will also be available to take donations for The Big Day of Giving.

Live Pop-Up Broadcasts

Kittens and Kupcakes

Description:  Who can resist Kittens and Kupcakes in one place??  Have a yummy homemade cupcake and a bottle of water while you learn about Kitten Central of Placer County and its unique role in saving kittens from being euthanized.  Enjoy a meet/greet with foster kittens from newborns to 3 months old.  We're sharing space at Pet Food Express again this year with our wonderful pals from RRUFF, there will be foster pups to meet/greet, too.  You can find us by looking for the balloons outside Pet Food Express, but really, we're hard to miss even without them.

BDOG Shoe Drive & Sale-A-Thon

Description:  Clean out those closets and donate your gently used/new shoes to the ReNew Stores on the Big Day of Giving. Stay and shop with special BigDOG discounts of 25-75%. Enjoy coffee and cookies and learn about how the ReNew Stores are breaking the cycle of homelessness for the women and children at Acres of Hope.  The ReNew Stores offer up-scale thrift fashion, home goods and furnishings.  100% of proceeds support Acres of Hope.

Free Cat & Kitten Adoptions at FieldHaven Feline Center

Description:  Come to FieldHaven Feline Center (2754 Ironwood Lane, Lincoln) or FieldHaven Marketplace (454 F St., Lincoln) and adopt a cat or kitten at no cost to you* because adoption fees have been sponsored by generous donors specifically for Big Day of Giving! Enjoy snacks and refreshments while you mingle with FieldHaven's adoptable cats and kittens. FieldHaven is home to Champy's Catfe, where you can sip beverages and hand out with cool (adoptable) cats. Both locations are opened extended hours on May 3rd from 10am to 7pm.  *Adopter will need to pay a minimal $11 chip fee.

Guitarathon
Organization: Sacramento Guitar Society

Description: Sunrise Mall is hosting the Sacramento Guitar Society.  They will set up a platform with a backdrop and seating for mall attendees to enjoy listening.  There will be a different guitarist on stage each hour throughout the day. There will be an information table where we will inform visitors about the Big Day Of Giving and our volunteers will solicit  donations from the public.  We will also have guitars available for people to try out.

ALS Care 4 a Cure Research Symposium

Description: This one-day event features an opportunity for patients, caregivers, and families affected by ALS to learn the latest on ALS research and to meet and greet with local service providers whose sole purpose is to improve the quality of life for those experiencing a terminal disease. Attendees will have the opportunity to peruse the exhibition spaces and visit with representatives to learn how products/services can benefit them as they battle ALS. There will be a donation station for Big DOG!

24 Hours of Giving Hope

Description: Our friends at Zinfandel Grille generously offered their patio for our  Big Day of Giving Gathering.   Come out to meet Buddy (the FJC Comfort Pet), and get your picture taken.  Bring your family & friends out to meet & socialize with the Family Justice Center Board of Directors, former District Attorney Jan Scully, CSUS Administration Staff, the FJC Team, Survivors form the FJC Voices group, and many others.    Receive free 'giveaways", while having the opportunity to donate to the Family Justice Center to help us on our mission to prevented domestic violence and domestic violence deaths in the Sacramento Community.

RRUFF/Healing Heroes - Help our Veterans

Description: On Wednesday, May 2nd, clients and staff from all three day programs will be representing The Arc of Placer County and getting the word out about our BIG Day of Giving by having a flash mob at the plaza!  Our clients will be dancing, hula hooping, waving streamers and custom art signs in support of our agency's biggest fundraiser on May 3rd. Staff will be playing songs and passing out reminders to the public to donate to our cause. We will FB live this event too!

Yolo County Midday Celebration

We'll provide a PA system, treats and some celebrity speakers!  It's a fun tradition, and we get to watch the leaderboard climb during the noon hour together!

SRBX Design Build Competition

Description: Come join us as we kick off the Big Day of Giving, award scholarships, and celebrate the workforce development efforts of the SRBX Education Foundation at the 32nd Annual Design Build Competition. We will have nearly 300 high school students and more than 150 industry professionals in attendance including the Boards of SRBX, the SRBX Education Foundation, the California Homebuilders Foundation and the Associated General Contractors of California. See high school students in action as 25 teams construct 96 square-foot structures that they design for use as a tiny home, playhouse, garden shed , chicken coop, or other structure. Reflections Art Showcase

Description: Reflections is a multigenerational art show featuring original works by formerly homeless youth and adults. Youth in LSS supportive housing programs are joining with their adult counterparts to stage a multigenerational art show that will feature dozens of original works of art, music, dance and performance art. Art will be for sale and will benefit the residents and LSS supportive housing programs.

Big Day of Giving Party!

Description: We're having an Open House on Big Day of Giving, May 3rd, at the Foothill Dog Rescue Adoption Center. We'll have the computers up and running so people can come in to make their Big Day of Giving donations, our Board of Directors and lots of volunteers and fosters will be available to give tours and to provide information on our programs, and we plan on having some of our available dogs there as well (no adoptions on that day though). The Open House will be 12:00pm to 3:00pm and 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Be sure to stop by! 

Scoops for School

CDP's Big Day of Giving Happy Hour!

Women's Empowerment Big Day of Giving Superhero Celebration!

Sister organizations are teaming up for the fundraiser, which hopes to raise $4,000.  These nonprofits serve as agents of change, hope and healing in the Oak Park community, providing assistance, compassion and direction for drug users, sex workers, the homeless and those living in poverty  The event, which will feature sangria, appetizers, live music and pick-up soccer games, also will showcase the operations of each nonprofit, and offer the chance to train in the use of naloxone -- the widely used miracle drug that saves lives of those overdosing on opioids.
