For nearly 30 years, the California Automobile Museum has been educating and entertaining audiences with beautiful and interesting automobiles. There is much to be proud of and thankful for as we recall the rich history of the organization, from the humble beginnings of a $100 offering to form the fledgling "California Vehicle Foundation" and its quest to open an auto museum in Sacramento all the way to our current status of nearly $1 million in assets, a volunteer corps of several hundred and visitorship of over 50,000 per year. A significant part of the history of the Museum was the arrival of over 100 Fords from the collection of Edward Towe. Without the collection, the Museum would most certainly not be in the position it is today. Times change, however, and the Museum no longer houses the Towe Collection. We now exhibit a much broader collection of vehicles, telling the history of the automobile from the late 1800s through electric and hydrogen vehicles of the future. As a result, the Board of Directors, in 2009, officially changed the name of the Museum to the California Automobile Museum, reflecting the expanded mission it has grown into over the past 25 years - to preserve, exhibit and teach the story of the automobile and its influence on our lives.
Contributions/Grants - Donations/Grants can be unrestricted (ideal) or restricted for programs such as our Educational Classes and Tours, Touch Tours for the visually impaired, Exhibits, etc.

Vehicle Donations - we have a thriving vehicle donation/consignment program that is one of our main revenue streams. We handle all donations/consignments/sales in-house rather than turning them over to a third party like most charities.

Technology - iPads, computers, Touchscreen monitors, etc. are needed for our hands-on technology and learning programs.
Volunteers - the Museum relies on its volunteers to run key committees, fundraisers and our docent program.In-kind marketing opportunities such as print media, radio, TV, etc. in order to promote our educational classes, exhibits, fundraisers and general awareness about the Museum.

Our top needs:
  1. Funding: Program - Our most pressing need for restricted funds is to work toward much-needed climate control improvements, an ongoing part of our building improvements, now that our roof replacement has concluded.
  2. Funding: Unrestricted - Contributions/Grants - Donations/Grants can be unrestricted (ideal) or restricted for programs such as our Educational Classes and Tours, Touch Tours for the visually impaired, Exhibits, etc.

We are proud to announce that we have satisfied our most pressing goals from 2017! We purchased our building from the city after 30 years as tenants, and in January of 2018, we concluded the replacement of our aging, leaky roof. We owe our success to the hard work and philanthropy of generous donors, devoted volunteers, and dedicated staff members. One can only imagine the landmarks ahead as the museum enters a new era. Your continued involvement in the museum ensures an exciting and promising future for CAM.
