AAUW is an national organization founded in 1881 to promote education and equity for women, with local branches nation-wide. Membership is open to women and men who have completed a two-year college degree or higher. The Auburn Branch was chartered in 1949. We have 85 members from eleven communities. We provide college scholarships to local high schools girls and sponsor local middle school girls' attendance at Tech Trek - a week-long STEM camp at UC Davis.
Nationally, AAUW advances equity for women and girls through education funding, research on gender equity issues that matter in the lives of women and girls, and legal advocacy to challenge sex discrimination in higher education and the workplace.
Mission
AAUW-Auburn empowers women and girls by advocating for more women in leadership positions; closing the gender pay gap; and preventing sexual harassment & discrimination. We break down barriers holding women back from entering STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math) careers. We accomplish our goals through advocacy, scholarships, education, and fellowship. AAUW members are a community that breaks through economic barriers so that all women have a fair chance.
Needs
Tech Trek: Auburn AAUW requests your financial support to send seven seventh-grade girls to TechTrek, a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) camp for one week at the University of California, Davis. The price to send each camper is $900.
We provide eight $1,000 scholarships to local high school girls, annually and two re-entry scholarships.
We have expanded our STEM programming to include a locally developed science project for elementary school participants and a cell phone charger project for early middle school participants. These hands-on experiences allow us to provide STEM experiences to a broader audience.
We need funds to provide consumable supplies, such as electronic components and tools to use during projects.
All of projects are staffed by member volunteers.
We need marketing expertise to better expand our organization.
