In 2008, a small group of caring and committed women met to discuss the needs of their communities, how they could give back and pay it forward and what it would take to make real, sustainable change with a goal of changing lives for not just a season, but to change young lives forever. Hence, the long journey to become a Chapter of Assistance League quietly began. In 2012 Assistance League Sierra Foothills became the 120th Chapter of National Assistance League with over 120 proud members.

Today Assistance League Sierra Foothills has six (6) philanthropic programs, each tailored to the county's individual needs, reviewed annually and modified to reflect the changing requirements of our communities. Our members tirelessly work over 14,000 volunteer hours a year, and touch the lives of thousands of children, families and seniors each year. And each year we are proud to say that number grows.

Since that first meeting in 2008, Assistance League Sierra Foothills has never stopped believing that it has the power to help break the cycle of poverty and indifference. It has never stopped believing that it can help lift the human spirit, build confidence and strengthen self-esteem. It has never stopped believing that the smallest, most vulnerable members of our
communities are tomorrow's leaders and the next generation to extend their hand to those in need.
Operation School Bell® is our signature program and therefore the majority of Assistance League Sierra Foothills funds are spent on this program. We provide vouchers to disadvantaged and homeless, K-8 students in El Dorado County, inviting them to attend our shopping events where they can shop for warm, comfortable and appropriate new school clothing. We also give each child a new book to take home. We were fortunate enough to provide new school clothing to over 900 children in our fiscal year 2016-2017. We are only able to offer the shopping spree experience to 17% of those in need for El Dorado County western slope. The opportunity to increase this percentage totally relies on contributions from generous donors like you, grant awards and successful fundraisers.

No one likes to wear poverty. Operation School Bell touches lives, gives children a fresh start, and builds their self-esteem, which in turn helps them to focus on their school work and improves attendance.

With your help as a generous contributor, we are hopeful to reach our new goal in the coming year to clothe 1,200 disadvantaged children in El Dorado County. Also, this past year we provided 2 Community Service Scholarships of $1,000 each awarded to El Dorado County high school seniors for their dedication to community service. Our goal in the coming year is to increase the number to 4 scholarships awarded of $1,000 each.

Please help us with your private donation so we may continue to grow these valuable programs and increase the number of children's lives we touch with the goal of meeting an
important need of El Dorado County.

Our top needs:
  1. Funding: Program - Funding for our signature program (Operation School Bell) will enable more children in need to receive basic school clothing. Sponsor an Event-$3,000-$5,000 sponsors a shopping event for the disadvantaged children from schools in El Dorado County.
  2. Funding: Program - Bags for Belonging - $10 pays for one large duffle bag to be used by Child's Protective Services for children who must be removed from their living situation.
  3. Funding: Program - Community Scholarship Grant - $1,000 will pay for some college fees and books for one outstanding high school graduate from El Dorado County, who has shown leadership skills in community philanthropy.
  4. Funding: Program - Senior Shopping Spree - $50 will pay for 4 seniors, from local retirement centers, to shop for Christmas gifts for their loved ones.
