Next Move Homeless Services (formerly Sacramento Area Emergency Housing Center) is a profound force in moving homeless families and individuals to self-sufficiency and self-reliance. Started as a Family Shelter program in 1972 to meet the basic needs of seven homeless families, the agency now serves an average of 500 people each day. At first, our mission was to provide shelter to help ease people out of homelessness.  However, as our clients' needs have changed, we too have had to grow our services to meet these changing needs.  Our expanded services include providing individual success plans, self-sufficiency & life skills workshops, parenting resources, budgeting, housing, physical & mental health care, housing relocation assistance, employment readiness, and community support services. Next Move's shelters, temporary housing, and permanent housing, bolstered by an ever-growing list of services, continues to make visible and measurable changes in people's lives.

Giving Activity

Mission

The mission of Next Move Homeless Services is to help individuals and families with children achieve self-reliance.

Needs

Next Move's most pressing needs are funding and donations that will help cover operating costs for our programs, including our Family Shelter, Francis House Center, our Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) programs, our Mather Singles Interim Housing program, our Adolfo Transitional Housing for Former Foster Youth and our Family Transitional Housing at our Mather Campus. All donor contributions are funneled directly into programs that house and support families.

Francis House Center is Next Move's front facing program serving over 300 low income and unhomed clients with bus passes, hot meals and coffee, clothing, computer lab and other needed resources. Our funding needs are hygiene kits (toothbrush, deodorant, female hygiene items, razors, etc.), tents, bus passes, hot meals, and blankets.

Next Move's Emergency Family Shelter: In addition to providing emergency shelter to families, our Family Shelter provides services such as case management and youth services. Funding is needed for blankets, clothing for families, furniture for our families located at an extension of our Family Shelter, and funding for a new technology room for families to be able to apply for housing and for jobs.

Our Family Transitional Housing Program is in need of items for mothers with newborn babies like baby gates, highchairs, formula and diapers.

Donations of new or gently used clothing, furniture, and household goods are always welcomed at Francis House Center as well.
