$4,000 Goal

Originally started as the SPOA Memorial Scholarship Fund in 2006.  For many years, the program proudly awarded scholarships in fallen officers' names. In 2016, wanting to do more for our SPD family and community, we relaunched our organization as the SPOA 1849 Foundation. In doing so, we added the Crisis Relief, Athletics, and Historical programs. A year later, the Sacramento Police Athletic Club joined us, and is now is a part of the Athletics program.

The Memorial Scholarship fund has awarded over $80,000 in scholarships, since establishing in 2006. The SPOA 1849 Foundation's Crisis Relief program has donated over $22,500 in relief funds to SPD personnel, SPD families, and Sacramento community members, from 2016 through 2020. The Athletics committee has provided $40,000, on behalf of SPD athletic events & community sports teams in the last five years.

Mission

The SPOA 1849 Foundation Mission: To enhance the relationship between the Sacramento Police family and the community they serve, through scholarship, crisis relief, athletics and its rich history.

Needs

Scholarships: We welcome all donations to increase the amount of each of the awarded recipients' scholarships. We also seek donations to establish dedicated scholarship funds for existing or acceptable new scholarships going forward.

Crisis Relief: We seek any donations to increase the size and quantity of stipends provided to those in need. We are open to in-kind donations consistent with the ideals and specific program outreach. The unrestricted donations help to provide various stipends or specific purchases toward the identified crisis need. Such examples, in previous years we have provided financial support and gifts to those who suffered from major loss, such as cancer, the Napa Fires, or just a simple need as a Christmas gift. All program outreach is delivered by line-level police officers, dispatchers, or park rangers.

Team Athletics: We seek donations for community outreach toward juvenile and young adult team sports throughout the year. Such example, to fund 100-150 kids within a given City neighborhood area to enroll in organized team sports. We also seek donations and support to our larger community sports that engage the public and our police members, such as the annual Guns & Hoses football game, baseball and soccer games that raise funds for local charity.

Historical Museum: Beyond discretionary funds, we seek physical space where we can temporarily store, set-up and/or display historical items, anything from 1,000-10,000 sq feet.

Volunteers: We welcome any interested volunteers that can provide support to our various program activities, with event fundraising, coordinating, research and outreach.
