Pathways to Recreation, Inc.

Pathways to Recreation, Inc. was formed in 2009 to support Therapeutic Recreation Services (TRS), which is a County of Sacramento program through the Department of Regional Parks. TRS provides year-round recreation programs for adults with disabilities throughout Sacramento County and beyond. Pathways to Recreation supports TRS programs and participants by providing additional opportunities unable to be provided by the County. These include program scholarships to participants in financial need to cover program fees, purchasing program supplies to reduce the overall cost of the program, therefore reducing the fee charged to participants, and the modification of a County van to include a wheelchair lift and tie downs to accommodate 2 wheelchairs.

TRS is an invaluable County program serving an under-served population. TRS provides a comprehensive recreation program which includes most aspects of a well-rounded leisure lifestyle: special events, classes, day trips, overnight travel, and community outings. Without TRS, many people with disabilities would have limited social outlets and opportunities for recreation with their peers in a safe, accommodating, non-judgmental environment. And due to Pathways, more people with disabilities have the opportunity to experience these life-changing programs and improve their quality of life through recreation.
