The Good Neighbors Club of Del Paso Heights, CA. (GNC), is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that was founded in 1947. GNC was incorporated as a nonprofit organization on November 5, 1951. For over 75 years, GNC has been instrumental in providing activities, resources and services to residents in the city of Sacramento, CA. Supportive services have included, but are not limited to, Boys and Girl Scout Programs, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) collaborations, food drives, voter registration and blood drives. GNC is currently in negotiation to establish a Boys and Girls Club in the Del Paso Heights, CA. community.
GNC began providing childcare services in 1947. It was the primary supportive community service needed at that time. In 1968, GNC purchased three lots in Del Paso Heights, CA. In 1989, on those lots, GNC constructed the Minette Smith Child Development Center, named in honor of the founder and first president of GNC. In 1973, the California Department of Education licensed the childcare program as a Child Development Program. Since its inception, the childcare program has graduated over 1300 children.
GNC is collaborating with local high schools to offer community service intern opportunities. GNC has provided over $30,000 in scholarships to high school seniors and college undergraduate students.
GNC seeks expansion of its community based programs to include senior day care programs and mentoring programs for junior and senior high school students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).
