The organization, Yes2Kollege Educational Resources Inc. began in 2002 as a parent engagement and early college preparation program for students and parents in Sacramento. We expanded to include Professional Development for teachers and foster care caseworkers, for areas in and outside of Sacramento County as far as Chicago, Illinois. The organization founder is the published writer of a self-help book for parents and students, writer of education and health newspaper articles and online blog columns, and presentations to guide parents and students to becoming successful in school and preparing early for college.
Scholars Academy Program: In 2006, Yes2Kollege developed a six week Scholars Academy Program of early preparation techniques/information, with guest speakers for families with K-12 students that was sponsored by local universities, school districts, community centers, and churches. The program has served more than 5,000 families.
African American Women's Health Legacy (AAWHL): In 2012, Yes2Kollege developed the African American Women's Health Legacy (AAWHL), a program for African American women/girls with Type2 diabetes, hypertension, and obesity to educate and inspire a legacy of good health, nutritious eating, and active living for families. This program focuses on nutrition, fitness, mental health, leadership development, and advocacy training.
Minority Health Professions Mentor Program (MHPMP): In 2013, Yes2Kollege developed a youth health careers pipeline program, the Minority Health Professions Mentor Program (MHPMP) to expose African American youth to African American health professionals (i.e. doctors, nurses, technicians, allied health professionals) to share their stories of challenges and triumphs on their road to their career of choice. More than 400 middle and high school students have participated in 4 summer job shadow programs with our Advisory Council of 65 health professionals. A Parent Engagement Committee leads workshops for student success and retention.
