Happy 30th Year Anniversary to RUFF!

I love to report each year that RUFF is busier than ever reaching out to our community, connecting with individual homeowners, offering youth groups and families outdoor volunteering opportunities, and promoting a healthy tree canopy which helps us all breathe better!

This year the Shade Tree Advisory Program contracted with Roseville Electric Utilities to complete a record number of 165 site visits, 90 Q&A, 11 presentations, and 10 workshops about trees and tree care.

Our summers are typically busy working with the city parks and recreation department to mulch city park trees or open space trees that were planted in years past by city staff and RUFF volunteers. This year we kept up the work of mulching throughout the fall and winter with up to 135 volunteers at one of the locations where we had planted young natives in 2022. We try to revisit our planting sites every 3 – 5 years to re-mulch and check on the conditions of the trees.

RUFF hired a second part-time staff person in October 2025 (Operations Administrator) to help do many of the things that I and other board members have been volunteering to do for many years. I’m happy to have more time for the things I like best about my involvement with RUFF and less time spent on business necessities! I still am around for support and historical perspective, but happy to pass the baton on!
