K9s4Kids Kona & Bayley

I've been a CASA volunteer on their K9s4Kids team with my 2 Golden Girls, Kona & Bayley, for the last six years. I've seen first hand how powerful a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) can be in kids, teens & families lives. I've also witnessed the sheer delight & calm that my dogs bring whenever we go. I've seen a traumatized teen go from a full blown meltdown to falling on the floor, hugging & cuddling with my dog in tears until she was calm. We've visited a school where a young child had passed away & watched the joy & calm the my dog brought to the grieving classmates & staff. In Juvenile Court I've seen the joy & calm my dogs bring to everyone there. One young deaf girl jumps for joy & claps her hands when she see's one of my dogs. She is delighted by the fact that my dogs know hand commands & she can communicate with them. I've seen teens with their hoods up & eyes glued to their phones smile & put their phones down so they can pet & cuddle with my dog. I've watched my dogs support & bring calm to very traumatized young sisters when they had to be in court & face the person who had harmed them. 

CASA volunteers are commitment to coming alongside these traumatized children, at-risk youth & families in crisis during a very dark & hopeless season in their lives.
