Sierra Forever Families

Sierra Forever Families' (Sierra) mission is to transform the lives of children and youth in foster care by building and nurturing permanent families. We believe while some children might need temporary care, every child NEEDS a forever family who provides them with a lifelong, safe, stable and secure parenting relationship with love and unconditional commitment.

Sierra specializes in finding forever families for children in foster care who are considered hard-to-place, having one or more barriers to adoption. These barriers include children who are medically fragile, ethnically diverse, teenagers, or part of a large sibling group who should not be separated. Since 1983, Sierra has been licensed to work with families (at no cost to them) in 12 Northern California counties. Sierra has found forever families for more than 3,900 children in foster care and has served thousands more with reunification, guardianship, kinship care, therapy, mentoring, and post-adoption services. Sierra has three service centers located in Auburn, Grass Valley, and Sacramento. During fiscal year 2017-2018, Sierra provided the following services to children in foster care:
- 150 adoption finalizations
- 215 children received Therapeutic Support Services
- 97 children participated in the Wonder Mentoring Program
- 132 children served by the Destination Family Program which includes Capital Kids are Waiting and Wendy's Wonderful Kids
Our top needs: 1. Funding: Unrestricted - With more than 3,000 children in foster care in the Sacramento region, Sierra Forever Families works to make sure that no child has to grow up in temporary care. 2. Funding: Unrestricted - We are in need of stable, loving adoptive families that are willing to open their hearts and homes to local children in foster care. Sierra knows that adoption is a lifetime journey, so we are committed to providing continued support services for as long as they are needed. 3. Volunteers - We are in need of mentors for our Wonder Mentoring program to ensure that no child has to go through foster care alone. 4. Funding: Unrestricted - In need of donors to invest in our mission to change the lives of local youth. 5. Volunteers - In need of volunteers to assist with special events.
'Since 1983, Sierra has provided forever families for more than 3,900 local children and youth living in foster care. Everything we do is focused upon finding permanent, loving families for our children and youth. We believe that no one is unadoptable and that every child deserves to grow up in a family that can provide love, safety, and unconditional commitment.'

Sincerely,
Lynn Thull PhD, Interim Executive Director
