The San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of the National Black MBA Association (NBMBAA) is a volunteer-led, Black-led professional organization serving Northern California—including the Greater Bay Area and the Sacramento region. Founded in Oakland in 1979, our chapter exists to strengthen leadership pipelines, expand economic opportunity, and build a thriving community for Black professionals, entrepreneurs, and students.

We create high-impact spaces where members can grow their careers, expand networks, access mentors, and build toward long-term leadership and wealth-building outcomes. Through intentional programming, partnerships, and community investment, we develop leaders who are equipped to influence industries, institutions, and communities.

What We Do

â—Ź Career & Leadership Development: workshops, panels, and coaching to support professional growth and executive readiness.

â—Ź Entrepreneurship & Innovation: programs and resources that support early-stage founders, business owners, and those building scalable ideas.

â—Ź Scholarships & Student Pathways: scholarship support and programming that uplifts students and emerging leaders.

â—Ź Community & Networking: curated events that build meaningful relationships, social capital, and opportunity.

â—Ź Corporate & Campus Partnerships: collaborations that strengthen recruitment pipelines, mentorship access, and supplier diversity opportunities.

Who We Serve

Our community includes professionals at every stage—from early career to executive leadership—along with entrepreneurs and students (high school through graduate school) who are preparing to lead in business, public service, and innovation.

Interested in partnering with us? We welcome corporate and educational partners who want to expand recruitment pipelines, support leadership development, and increase supplier diversity opportunities.

Mission

Our mission is to empower Black professionals, entrepreneurs, and students in Northern California through leadership development, career advancement, entrepreneurship, and access to opportunity—building a strong pipeline of leaders who create impact and legacy

Needs

Black professionals, entrepreneurs, and students in Northern California continue to encounter structural barriers that limit access to leadership development, career advancement, capital, and professional networks. While the region is a global center of innovation and economic growth, Black talent remains underrepresented in executive leadership, board governance, and scalable entrepreneurship.

Many individuals enter college and the workforce without access to mentorship, sponsorship, or exposure to leadership pathways. Early- and mid-career professionals often lack preparation for advancement into senior roles, while Black entrepreneurs face persistent challenges accessing capital, technical assistance, and networks necessary for sustainable growth. These gaps are not rooted in a lack of talent, but in limited access to structured, outcomes-driven development pipelines.

The San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of the National Black MBA Association addresses this need by delivering leadership development, career readiness, entrepreneurship education, and professional networking that lead to measurable outcomes—college access, job placement, promotions, business growth, and leadership advancement. Demand for these programs continues to increase as individuals seek credible pathways to economic mobility and leadership influence.

Without sustained investment in organizations that focus on preparation, accountability, and results, these disparities will persist, limiting economic participation and weakening the region’s leadership pipeline. Supporting this work strengthens workforce readiness, builds entrepreneurial capacity, and ensures that leadership reflects the full breadth of available talent.

Equity Statement

We advance equity by removing barriers to leadership, career advancement, and economic opportunity. Through targeted, outcomes-driven programs, we ensure that access to preparation, networks, and advancement pathways is expanded for individuals who have historically been excluded from leadership and economic mobility.
