MOSAIC Children's Museum is a grassroots 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded to create a children's museum for Yolo County. Children's museums are institutions that provide exhibits and programs to stimulate informal learning experiences for children.

Our name MOSAIC is an acronym of our museum’s key focus: Museum of Science, Art, Imagination and Creativity. Our mission is to provide an environment that enlightens, inspires, and empowers children while developing their imagination and artistic abilities. It will be filled with irresistible learning experiences which are developed using state mandated educational standards, especially in the areas of Science, Reading, Technology, Engineering Art, and Math (STREAM).

We opened our doors in December of 2023 and the excitement from the community has been contagious. In these last few months we’ve welcomed over 1000 people, hosted birthday parties, field trips, and held a ribbon cutting ceremony. We are just getting started and can’t wait to see where this journey takes us. The museum continues to be a place to explore and learn while preparing young minds for the world they will soon inherit.

Giving Activity

Mission

MOSAIC (Museum of Science, Art, Imagination, and Creativity) Children's Museum enlightens, inspires, and empowers children in their lifelong learning journey while developing their imaginations and artistic abilities.

Needs

Funding is needed for exhibits, programming, and supplies, as well as technology, community outreach and marketing. We strive for excellence in our exhibits and the use of resources.

EXHIBIT DEVELOPMENT

Many of the exhibits are thematic representations of real world spaces with in Woodland and Yolo County. The Farm, Farmer's Market and Food Truck provide a creative environment where children and their adults learn how our food gets onto our plates (farm to fork). The Opera Stage allows children to explore all different personas while building their self confidence. The Outer Space and Dinosaur Exhibits bring the child into a different world where they can freely explore technical concepts through play. Our goal is to create a place without barriers that represents our city and county’s diverse community, history and culture.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Our community outreach has taken our mobile exhibits to farmers markets, science nights, festivals, Woodland concert nights at Heritage Plaza, First Friday Art Walk, corporate picnics, and other neighborhood activities. The exhibits include big blue blocks, the cascade water table, and a wind tunnel. In addition, we provide art and science projects to compliment the theme of each event.

Now that our doors are open we are eager to host field trips, birthday parties and invite community members to come read stories or share about their culture. We anticipate becoming a place where friendships are created and connections between different families are made.

TECHNOLOGY

At MOSAIC technology is presented in tangible ways where children can explore through play. The virtual reality sand box draws a lot of attention from both children and adults. A topographical map is projected onto sand and adjusts as the sand is manipulated. Rivers can be created as the sand is dug deeper or volcanos appear as sand is built up. Another exhibit where technology is integrated is at Mission Control. This interactive exhibit is modeled after Nasa's Mission Control. Children can type, make phone calls, turn dials, push buttons and manipulate levers all in support of helping those astronauts blast off into Outer Space!!

Equity Statement

Celebrating our differences and what makes each of us unique is crucial to the mission and vision of MOSAIC. We are committed to celebrating and learning about the wide variety of cultures that are with in Yolo County and beyond. We are committed to treating all people equally and with respect. We are committed to being a safe place for children and their families to be their truest selves while they explore, grow and learn.
