Mutual Assistance Network

$7,468 raised by 25 donors

Founded in 1991 by a group of concerned grandparents and residents, Mutual Assistance Network (MAN) launched its efforts towards supporting a stronger, more connected neighborhood with a focus on social and economic access for residents.

Today, the organization has evolved into a strong, respected organization, that has never lost its focus. MAN's mission is to advance social and economic opportunities so families can thrive.

MAN's programs benefit, primarily families and children, with an emphasis on addressing African American child and youth death disparities. We serve the low income and disinvested neighborhoods of Arden-Arcade, Del Paso Heights and North Sacramento. Afghani, African American, Caucasian, Hispanic and Hmong are primary ethnicities served.

MAN successfully and intentionally operates several youth and family focused programs to include Birth & Beyond, Black Child Legacy Campaign, Black Infant Health, College & Sports Academy, Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group, Youth After-School, and Recreational Camps to name a few.

MAN has seen a number of positive results for individuals and the neighborhoods we serve. Since 2005, we've seen decreases in reported crimes, the decrease in African American child deaths and the startup and operation of four successful neighborhood-based community centers.

Needs

This year, MAN is fundraising for the four (4) key organizational needs:

 Del Paso Heights Sports Complex Staffing – DPHSC provides community access to renovated multipurpose athletic fields, including our newly constructed futsal courts, in the heart of Del Paso Heights. In order to improve accessibility to community, MAN is fundraising to support operating and staffing costs for the facility.

 Youth & Families Impacted by Violence – MAN plays a vital role in community violence interruption, prevention, and intervention. Unfortunately, this includes responding to crises that result in the loss of life. MAN aims to alleviate family burden by supporting with some of the greatest needs, including funeral costs and access to mental health.

 Basic Community Needs – MAN provides a variety of community supports to help individuals and families access the most basic of needs. Basic needs include access to diapers, addressing food disparities, rental and eviction avoidance supports, and physical and mental health resources.

 Capacity Building – MAN would like grow marketing and communications capacity in order to improve communications to the community and share organizational resources.
