Description
In the City of Davis, Tree Davis engages in tree planting, tree care, and other efforts to help us fulfill our mission of expanding and enhancing the urban forest by teaching our community to plant and care for trees. This public-non-profit partnership allows the City to plant and care for more trees each season by reducing costs. Also, it empowers residents to plan for and steward other trees in their neighborhoods. These efforts and our organization is driven by our volunteers and members.

In collaboration with Trees For Tomorrow, Tree Davis is working in partnership with the Yolo County Office of Education has implemented a career- and college-readiness internship program focused on urban forestry and natural resources for disadvantaged students in West Sacramento public schools. High school students are leading tree plantings in their communities with younger children at elementary schools in the target area of the Trees for Tomorrow project. The student leaders participating in this career- and college-readiness program are learning first-hand about urban forestry, natural resources, public health, as well as civic engagement. The entire Washington Middle College High School student body was able to participate in an Arbor Day career panel on March 7th, 2018. This gave students the chance to meet and engage with professional mentors and learn about careers in all sectors (public, private, non-profit, education). We are thrilled about our partnership with Yolo County Office of Education and the opportunity to include students as we accomplish our planting goals in the City of West Sacramento and cultivate the next generation of tree ambassadors.

Description
Tree Davis Tribute and Honorary Trees are planted to honor a special person with a gift that will endure for generations to come. Dedicating a tree is a unique way to celebrate any special occasion, including holidays, births, anniversaries, weddings, birthdays, graduations, and to say thank you or to remember a loved one. And while you create a gift that lasts, you are helping Tree Davis keep the community green, clean, and cool for many years to come.

Program Successes
We do not currently have metrics to report on. We are in the process of revamping the program to accommodate more tribute trees in the Davis Memorial Grove as well as in public parks.

Here is a testimonial for a tribute tree we planted in the Davis Green Belt a few years ago: "I'm so grateful for the Tree Tribute program offered by Tree Davis! Losing my mom left such an empty void in my life but planting a living tree in her memory has provided me with so much comfort and peace. Not only has it given my family and I a place to go and reflect but also provides beauty, health, and happiness to our surrounding park and city. My mom loved trees and I can picture the smile on her face the day we planted it. I suspect this tree will continue to live and provide beauty and shade long after I've left this world and that makes me happy."
