Description
Children actively engage with people, objects, and places to make sense of the world around them. Our twice daily educational classes and activities use interactive learning to introduce new concepts and enhance every visitor's museum experience. Our ten regular classes include creative exploration (Creative Art, Sound Explorers, Tinker Time, Theater Play); literary exploration for different age levels (Story Time, Baby Bloomers Story Time); physical exploration (Yoga Play, Music and Movement); and educational exploration (Science Sundays, Cultural Connections).

Your support helps children reach a new level of learning while they make a castle out of household materials, let their imaginations run wild in a story, or get the wiggles out to a favorite song.
Budget
$15,000
Program Successes
- Our education programs welcome hundreds of children every year. Families come back to our classes week after week, excited for the next adventure.
- In 2019, we added two new classes, Theater Play and Tinker Time.
- During closures we converted many of our regular classes to video programming or take-home museum kits, ensuring that our visitors could keep their love of learning alive.
- We are adding new "roving" programs to our museum floor in 2021.

Description
Our ten interactive exhibits live an active life! Your support helps us update, maintain, and improve our existing exhibits -- and even introduce fun new ones!
Budget
$60,000
Program Successes
- Our ten exhibits attract nearly 100,000 visitors a year.
- Pandemic closures allowed us to reimagine our exhibit space. We are excited to welcome you to new versions of your favorite exhibits like My Neighborhood and Baby Bloomers.
- We are debuting a brand-new exhibit in 2021: a fully functional beehive!
Description
We offer two free access and inclusion programs: ExplorAbility, for children ages three to six on the autism spectrum; and Discovery Play, for children with special needs and their families. Both offer children a safe, sensory-friendly environment in which to enjoy our exhibits.
Budget
$30,000
Program Successes
- During closures we welcomed over six hundred ExplorAbility visitors at our free drive-through events.
- ExplorAbility is the only program of its kind in the area.
- Both programs support more than our young visitors! Families enjoy a space prepared for their unique needs, and find support with other families who understand how important those needs are.
Description
Van GO! Mobile Museum brings our exhibits and programming to life anywhere! Our educators turn classroom or outdoor spaces into hour-long mini museums for preschool to second grade classes. Your support helps us design new mobile exhibits, supplies our six most popular exhibits, and even lets us take Van GO! to qualifying schools for free.
Budget
$35,000
Program Successes
- Since 2017, Van GO! has visited nearly three hundred schools, local libraries, and community events.
- Van GO! loves to visit children who couldn't otherwise come to the museum. Our farthest visit so far was to Susanville -- two hundred miles away!
- Our newest Van GO! Programming includes sensory-friendly options for children with special needs.
Description
Accessibility is key to fulfilling our mission, and we remove as many barriers to learning as we can. Our Museum Access Program (MAP) does just that by giving free annual memberships to low-income, foster, and military families. During COVID-19 closures we supported our MAP families with free take-home museum kits and programming.

Your support keeps our mission accessible for all children in our area.
Budget
$50,000
Program Successes
- MAP has been active as long as our museum has. Since 2011, we awarded almost three hundred free museum memberships.
- Collaborations with the Discover and Go program allow any family with a library card to check out a four-person admission pass from their local library.
- In the past three years alone more than ten thousand museum visitors came for free on a Discover and Go pass.
