Description
The Heart Gallery of Sacramento works exclusively on behalf of children considered 'harder to place' simply because they are older, members of a sibling group, or have special needs. The Heart Gallery of Sacramento partners with Sacramento County DHHS, Child Protective Services and community based agencies to identify foster children and youth waiting for permanency/adoption. Heart Gallery of Sacramento volunteer photographers create and display beautiful portraits of the waiting children and youth that are made available at Heart Gallery events as well as events sponsored by the community at large and partnering foster and adoptive agencies.

Program Successes
- Of the 174 children/youth presented since November 2005, 107 have found permanency (61.5%), 80 through adoption, 21 through guardianship, and 6 through reunification.
- The Heart Gallery portraits contribute in a very real way to the many approaches used by Child Welfare social workers in pursuit of families willing to provide permanency for children/youth in foster care.
- Heart Gallery portraits and banners continually act to motivate and support both public and private agency social workers' commitment to good outcomes for foster children.
- The Heart Gallery of Sacramento has increased the number of portraits of adoptive families who have been willing to come forward and be part of the 'forever families' display.
- The Heart Gallery of Sacramento has specifically increased the number of photographers and volunteers dedicated to help support foster families and children through thousands of volunteer hours in the form of meetings as well as planning, coordinating, and staffing events and speaker presentations.
Description
The Heart Gallery of Sacramento engages in community outreach and targeted events designed to generally inform and recruit potential families for both foster care and adoption. The Heart Gallery partners with agencies and community-based entities to provide displays, which increase public knowledge and awareness of the foster children waiting. In October 2018, there are over 59,000 children in care in California and over 2000 in Sacramento County foster care, with many children and youth seeking permanency through guardianship or adoption. The Heart Gallery of Sacramento seeks to help individuals and families in the community at large understand that there are many types of families eligible and appropriate to meet the need. Heart Gallery portraits impact perception, making these foster children and youth 'real' with a 'face to face' experience. This can lessen the unknown for many families thinking about becoming a Resource Family, making a decision and next steps easier. The Heart Gallery of Sacramento and its collaborating partners seek to offer support and connections for families considering permanency for children.

- Identification of resource families who match the needs of the children/youth while providing interested families with a network of agencies and connections to other foster/adoptive families.
