The Health Communication Research Institute, Inc.
The Health Communication Research Institute, Inc. (HCRI, Inc.), a 501, (c), 3 nonprofit corporation, was founded in 1989 with a mission to improve communication around end-of-life issues and to reduce health disparities among underserved populations, including the homeless. Since 2015, the focus of HCRI, Inc. has been to establish Joshua's House, the first hospice house for those experiencing homelessness at the end of life on the West Coast.

|2016||2016 was the first year since 2005 that the Founder/Executive Director was full time at HCRI,Inc. She does not take a salary. Volunteers assisted with the planning for Joshua's House.|
|2015||HCRI, Inc. was founded in June 1989 and was active until 2005 when the Founder/Executive Director took a sabbatical to focus on her appointment as a faculty member in the UCD School of Medicine and the Director of the UCD Comprehensive Cancer Center Outreach Research & Education Program. She retired in January 2016 and assumed her duties with HCRI, Inc. to focus on creating Joshua's House, a hospice house for those experiencing homelessness at the end of life in the greater Sacramento area.|
