Davis Community Meals was founded in 1991 as a non‑profit, non‑denominational volunteer organization to provide free meals for low‑income and homeless individuals and families in the Davis area. Over the last 30 years we have grown substantially to meet the ever-increasing need for housing. Davis Community Meals now manages a robust Resource Center offering referral information, housing assistance, employment training assistance, and public benefit counseling to homeless individuals, families, and those at risk of becoming homeless. During winter, Davis Community Meals operates a cold weather shelter for homeless individuals.
Responding to the critical lack of housing in our area, we partnered with Sutter Health and the Davis community to build Paul’s Place at 1111 H St. This site provides both Temporary housing for recently clean and sober individuals and Permanent Supportive rental housing at "extremely low income" rates and are affordable to those with minimal or fixed incomes. All are at capacity.
We also run 2 affordable housing developments in Davis, Cesar Chavez Plaza and Creekside, offering a total of 142 units of housing, with 45 of the units set aside for "special needs" population of homeless or at-risk of homeless individuals and families with mental illness, physical disabilities or chronic substance abuse issues.
Our focus is on housing the unhoused, but we stick to our roots by continuing to feed and build community serving our free meals on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 5:45PM and Saturday mornings at 11:30AM at 640 Hawthorne Lane. We hope you’ll join us!
