Women's Empowerment's mission was created by women expressing their needs and a community coming together with the desire to end homelessness for good.  For 21 years, with a holistic program designed (and constantly adapting) to meet the unique needs of each woman experiencing homelessness, WE has graduated over 1,700 women and their more than 3,700 children, empowering them to break the cycle of poverty and achieve self-reliance. Located in Sacramento, California, WE provides education, counseling, essential services, and more, all in a safe and nurturing environment where every person is treated with respect and dignity.

WE Believe:
-Homelessness does not define a person.  It is an experience, not their identity.
-Women are strong and resilient; each woman can be the author - and the hero - of her own life.  With empowerment and support, each woman can build the bright future she imagines for herself and her children.

After graduating from our program, 82% of women regain a safe home and over 80% find employment or enroll in higher education or training.

WE know that together, we can end homelessness, one woman - one family - at a time.

Mission

Women's Empowerment educates and empowers women experiencing homelessness with the skills and confidence needed to get a job, maintain a healthy lifestyle, and regain a safe home for themselves and their children.

HIRE!

Please consider becoming and employer partner to create job pipelines for our ready, willing, and capable graduates! Employment is the best pathway out of homelessness. You can be the difference.

VOLUNTEER!

We rely heavily on volunteers to help with the many facets of our program. Volunteer opportunities include career mentors, childcare providers, workshop facilitators (cover letters, financial literacy, resume writing, etc.), mock interviewers, special event helpers, and so much more!

Equity Statement

Women's Empowerment is committed to building a more just and equitable community, both within our walls and beyond. We acknowledge the history of oppression and systemic inequity that has resulted in ongoing disparities for minority communities, as well as our responsibility to address them. We are committed to seeking out and prioritizing diverse perspectives and working to ensure our practices are inclusive and equitable. We recognize that this work is urgent, and we will always be learning. We will not stop,

Women's Empowerment is committed to bettering our organization by confronting our own biases and ensuring our policies, procedures, and practices all align with our values. We know that intention alone will not change things, so we will remain active and transparent about our successes and missteps of our continued work towards equity. Our mission to empower women* and children experiencing homelessness moves us to challenge ourselves directly and work to dismantle systems of oppression while building opportunities for learning, change, and accountability.

Women's Empowerment is committed to this equity journey and the diversity of our clients, board, and staff, and supports the community as change agents that contribute to a more inclusive, more vibrant, and more equitable Sacramento.
