TunesWork

The idea of TunesWork was born in October 2015, when Mike Silcox and Ann Roach attended the screening of the Sundance award winning documentary "Alive Inside," in Lodi, CA, sponsored by Vienna Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center. Both Mike and Ann were deeply moved by the film and the way music was reconnecting those afflicted with Alzheimer's and Dementia to themselves, their families… their LIVES. Immediately they got their communities involved to raise awareness and funds to further the cause. They formed TunesWork to continue their mission to promote music as medicine.

Now, TunesWork is a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose mission is to advocate and support programs that utilize the healing power of music. We strive to support all programs and organizations using music as medicine. TunesWork in partnership with Eskaton Foundation, launched its first benefit concert in November of 2016, featuring Craig Chaquico. Through his own personal experience of the healing power of music, Craig is an on-going advocate for music as medicine. Craig is a founding member, hit song writer, and former lead guitarist on all Jefferson Starship and Starship hits, as well as a two-time Grammy award nominated solo artist. Through our efforts, we were able to support Eskaton's therapeutic music program for the next 12 months, and we contributed funds for the California Association of Health Facilities' Music and Memory project benefiting 300 nursing homes statewide.

Since stepping into the world of the healing power of music, TunesWork continues to be amazed by the many organizations dedicated to using music to heal, comfort and soothe. TunesWork continues to champion these efforts by educating the public, raising awareness and fundraising, because we know that Tunes truly work.

Mission

Our Mission

Transforming lives through the power of music

Our Vision

TunesWork's vision is to fund increased access to therapeutic music programs for all ages, all reasons and all life; including residents in senior centers, patients in hospitals, palliative and hospice care, rehabilitation, bereavement, and veterinary programs. Together we transform lives through the power of music. Music is good medicine.

Needs

Funding for Music and Memory and therapeutic music programs. It takes a minimum of $2,000 to place Music and Memory in a facility. It costs between $50-$75 an hour for therapeutic musicians. We are committed to placing these programs in as many facilities as possible, especially those facilities that are housing our loved ones. Meaning all of our loved ones.

Every dollar goes a long way in keeping TunesWork up and running. We have basic organizational expenses, including insurance, subscriptions (data base and other programs), printing supplies, office materials, mailing expenses, consultants, and vendors. In addition some of our campaigns/fundraising concerts, require funds to accomplish their goals.

We have an amazing group of dedicated board members that each have a personal experience witnessing the power of music being used as medicine. Music is a non-pharmaceutical intervention... it helps stabilize, comfort, reduce anxiety, and so much more. We are hoping to expand this group of passionate, dedicated board members who share our vision and mission. We are most particularly looking for board members that have influence in their personal connections and business communities. Board members who will passionately take on this cause within their sphere of influence.

We have been fortunate to receive many in-kind donations so far. It has helped us to reach our goals without taking away dollars towards our ultimate mission. In-kind donations such as media, concert venues, interviews, videography, video/audio equipment, printing, online services, and food and beverage help us keep our spending down and enable us to continue transforming lives through the power of music.

Highly dedicated volunteers are the core of TunesWork. Volunteers are essential for our organization's success. Some concerts and events require more volunteers than others. At those time, we reach out for assistance. We are always looking for volunteers that have legal and accounting abilities, Human Resources, IT, marketing, graphic designers, videographers, etc. We are always looking for champions to bring their unique skill set to our organization. Become a TunesWork Champion and take on our mission. For example, are you a musician, soloist or in a band? Be our champion and put on your own benefit concert and raise awareness and funds for TunesWork.
