Since 1987, RedRover's donors, supporters, and volunteers have changed the lives of countless animals. Based in Sacramento, California, RedRover’s programs help animals and people in crisis throughout the United States. We bring together passionate individuals and create a network of people and organizations dedicated to alleviating suffering and strengthening the bond between people and animals. RedRover does this through the following programs:

  1. RedRover Relief - Grants provide financial assistance for lifesaving veterinary care and escape from domestic violence.
  2. RedRover Responders – Crisis: Volunteers help shelter, care for, and comfort animal victims of natural disasters and large-scale animal cruelty. Community: Through our Community Programs initiative, we deliver training and hands-on assistance, such as providing volunteers for a spay and neuter clinic or guidance on shelter operations, to communities in need.
  3. RedRover Readers – Trained educators use stories and discussion to teach children how to understand emotions and feel empathy for animals and people alike.

Giving Activity

Mission

RedRover is a national animal welfare organization. Our mission is to bring animals out of crisis and strengthen the bond between people and animals through emergency sheltering, disaster relief services, financial assistance, and education.

Needs

We want to increase outreach efforts to make sure Sacramento-area residents and visionary entrepreneurial leaders can fully connect with us and participate in our growth and program offerings. Our main goals are to:

-Continue providing financial assistance and other resources for pets who need lifesaving veterinary care through our RedRover Relief program

-Increase outreach for and participation in the RedRover Readers program, a social and emotional learning program that helps children develop critical thinking skills and empathy for both people and animals

-Grow our Northern California RedRover Responders volunteer base – individuals who are specially trained to care for and shelter large numbers of animals after they have been rescued from cruelty and neglect

-Build partnerships with other Northern California animal groups by providing training and support so we can work together to care for animals displaced by natural disasters, rescued from mass cruelty situations (such as puppy mills or hoarding cases), or other large-scale events that affect animals in need

Equity Statement

RedRover recognizes the deep systemic racism within the animal welfare sector. Our mission is to help animals in crisis and strengthen our relationships with animals – but the lives of animals do not exist in a vacuum. We cannot fully and effectively help animals without looking deeply at ourselves and how we treat one another. Therefore, we see diversity, inclusion, equity, and belonging as integral and vital to the success of our mission, as well as to the well-being of our staff, volunteers, and the people and communities we serve.

RedRover is committed to examining the way we do our work and accomplish our mission with the goal of increasing diversity, equity, inclusion, and sense of belonging. RedRover is committed to working in stronger partnership with the people and communities we serve and actively seeking representation from those communities for our governing Board of Directors and for our staff and volunteers.

More specifically:

-We respect and value diverse life experiences and heritages and work to ensure that all voices are valued and heard.

-We will engage in ongoing learning and examining our own biases.

-We are committed to nondiscrimination, providing equal opportunity for employment and advancement, and ensuring our internal review and promotion practices are equitable.

-We will create and maintain diverse and equitable work environments with a strong sense of safety and belonging for our staff and volunteers.

-We are committed to modeling diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging for the animal welfare sector and encouraging those with whom we work closely to make this commitment with us.
