California Hospice and Palliative Care Association

CHAPCA was established in 1986. CHAPCA is governed by the Board of Directors, whose members are responsible for setting the policy of the association.
The Board of Directors consists of eleven to fifteen members elected at large who serve three year terms. The board normally meets four or five times per year.

The CHAPCA Bylaws is the formal document that guides all association activities. CHAPCA has policies that guide program and financial activities, as well.

Mission

The California Hospice and Palliative Care Association (CHAPCA) envisions a future where every patient and family is aware of hospice and palliative care services and has access to them. It is our mission to support the Association members by providing high quality hospice and palliative care services to patients and their caregivers and to provide leadership in advocating on behalf of hospice and palliative care in California.

Needs

CHAPCA is currently working on an informational resource guide that will be free to all California residents. The guide will serve as an unbiased explanation of the intricacies of hospice and palliative care. It will go over all aspects of care, from what patients should expect from their care team, to funeral arrangements, to what insurances cover hospice and palliative care. We hope to distribute this booklet to all California medical organizations by the end of 2020.

In 2020, CHAPCA is hosting free online webinars and in-person workshops in major cities all across California in order to educate people about hospice and palliative care. We hope that by educating the public on how hospice care works, we will be giving them the tools to make the best and most ethical decisions for themselves and their loved ones when the time comes.

CHAPCA relies on donations to help support our public advocacy efforts. Any California resident or someone dealing with hospice and palliative care in California is welcome to reach out to CHAPCA and we will answer their questions and help guide their decisions with unbiased education about hospice and palliative care.
