$30,000 Goal

Operating mainly as a land trust since 1989, ARC protects lands in perpetuity to improve watershed health. We apply the best available science to preserve rivers, land, and the life they support.  We foster diverse community relationships and collaborative partnerships with all who share our environmental values.  Our success is measured by a long record of productive partnerships and community support, including thousands of volunteer hours each year.  We lead through our three mission pillars:

  1. Conservation:  We protect and restore open space, biodiversity, natural habitat, and cultural resources through willing land purchases, donations, and conservation easements.  To date, we have protected over 29,000 acres ranging from the rural fringes to dense headwaters forests in El Dorado and Placer Counties.  At least one-third of our protected properties are former or current agricultural lands.

  2. Stewardship:  We manage land and conservation easements, including habitat restoration and enhancement, trail maintenance, and site monitoring.  We are responsible for over 35 miles of scenic foothill trails east of Sacramento. We make informed decisions and take actions to help mitigate the impacts of climate change.

  3. Environmental Education:  We connect people with the outdoors by facilitating experiential place-based learning. Each year, we serve thousands of learners of all ages in environmental education.  By building environmental literacy, we bolster others to create a more sustainable world for life today and tomorrow.

Mission

American River Conservancy serves our communities by ensuring healthy ecosystems within the upper American River and upper Cosumnes River watersheds through land conservation, stewardship, and education.

Needs

Donate - Volunteer - Share Our Story

Unrestricted fund donations allow us to make smart decisions while preserving rivers and land for life. Our membership fee is $45 per year, which includes the following benefits:

- Free or discounted admission on most of our workshops, events, and hikes

- $30 discount on an annual Acorn Creek trailhead pass

- Vote for ARC board members

- Use of ARC's library in the Nature Center

- Quarterly newsletter "The Current" (via mail or email)

- eStreams subscription (unless you opt out)

- Special rates for summer camp

- Participation in our supporter event(s)

- Engagement with our local community

We need regular and occasional volunteers. Examples include outdoor workdays, river cleanups, mailing support, and general office duties. We also need volunteers to lead public hikes and educational activities in El Dorado County.

Attend our events and public program. Contribute to the long-term sustainability of landmark Wakamatsu Farm where ARC's values come to life. You can also follow, like, and share our posts on social media. Donate and make a difference in the health and life of our communities.

Equity Statement

As a conservation organization based in California's upper American River and upper Cosumnes River watersheds, we acknowledge that we work within the land and waters that make up the ancestral homelands of the Miwok, Nisenan, and Washoe people. We pledge to honor, learn from, and actively engage local tribes in our work.
