Hope for Women

Please join me in supporting Soroptimist International of Davis, part of a global service organization with members in 118 countries worldwide. Our mission is to provide women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment.

Big Day of Giving is one of our two primary fundraisers, allowing us to do the following this year:

• We have given $13,000 in grants to women supporting their families while pursuing an education. All of these women have amazing stories to tell of overcoming hardships such as domestic abuse, homelessness, teen pregnancy, and addiction
• We will award $10,000 in scholarships to students graduating from one of the Davis High Schools. These young women are chosen not only by academic achievement but also by their resilience in overcoming obstacles
• We have mentored numerous students at our local continuation high school, King High. We offer informational sessions on careers, interview skills, goal setting, self-care and more
• We sewed over 300 zippered bags and filled them with toiletries for women and children at the local domestic violence shelter
• We filled and donated 48 rescue backpacks for women escaping sex trafficking

The Big Day of Giving is on May 7 but you can donate as little as $10 starting today. I will match the first $250 in donations, in the hope of reaching my goal of $1500. If you pay using your Golden 1 Credit Union debit card your donation may be matched as well. And if you prefer to donate offline, checks made out to SI Davis are also accepted.
