Who We Are:

Capitol Creative Alliance (CCA) is a nonprofit arts organization with the mission to connect and empower Sacramento's creative community. We bring this to life by creating opportunities for education, inspiration, and connections throughout our community. We believe a healthy creative community has the power to elevate our region’s quality of life and economic prosperity.

Who We Serve:

We serve local creatives in various phases of their journeys - from students enrolled in art and design programs, to emerging creative professionals, and professionals working across various industries, including:

  • Copywriting
  • Digital media
  • Entertainment
  • Graphic Design
  • Marketing
  • UI/UX Design
  • Videography and Photography
  • Web Design
  • ...and more

Our Programs:

Our programs are rooted in community engagement, education and empowering our creative workforce:

  • Ascenders Academy - A 6-month Mentorship Program for entry-level creative professionals
Mentees gain skills and community relationships that either take them to the next level of their careers or provide invaluable support to enter the workforce.
  • Creative Internship Program - A semester-long program for students pursuing creative careers
Students gain practical career experience  on a variety of design, marketing, fundraising, and research projects with our organization. They receive supervised, formal training, mentorships, networking opportunities, and a co-working membership at our headquarters, The Urban Hive.
Our graduation showcase is taking place on May 2, 2024. Come see the great work our interns have done! Register for the event.
  • Creativity Speaks - A salon-style speaker series celebrating and inspiring local creatives, and building community through connection.
We feature creatives from many professions -chefs, restaurateurs, fashion designers, small business owners, and dancers, etc., to draw diverse audiences and encourage intermingling between creative industries.
Our next event is with Susan Stewart and Alfred Melbourne on Tues., May 14th. Get your tickets now!
  • Design Week Sacramento - An annual celebration of our community and business owners as a culmination of all our programming.
Throughout the week, we offer Lectures, Panels, Workshops, Networking Events, Studio Tours, and more. All events are hosted by our local design community to improve awareness of and access to the diverse careers that make up our creative economy.
    Design Week is Oct 14 - 19.
  • Membership Platform - Allows us to offer our programming year-round to our members.
Community members can access our services, including our Job Board, event recordings, and our DEIA resource library while connecting and networking with like-minded individuals to build their community.

2024 Achievements:

  • We have hosted two Creativity Speaks events and have served over 100 people.
  • We were able to offer stipends to our speakers.
  • With support from the Golden 1 Credit Union and California Arts Council, we launched our internship program; secured office space; offered compensation for our two part-time staff members; and much more.
  • We deepened our partnerships with The Urban Hive, Bike Dog Brewing, GRDN Media, Sacramento State, and California for the Arts. We also built new relationships with Golden 1 Credit Union, The Film Squad, DOCO, and more.
  • We featured outstanding local creatives: Zoe Watson, Carissa Gutierrez, Bryan (Abs One) Washington, and Terra Lopez.
  • We attended the Arts & Culture Summit with California for the Arts and Create CA, rallied at the Capitol, and met with our local legislators to advocate for the creative workforce.

Invest in our creative future!

Mission

Our mission is to connect and empower Sacrament's creative community.

Needs

We need to improve our organizational capacity so that our systems and processes are built in a way that we can all thrive in our organization, and that our organization can continue to thrive.

We also need sustainable funding that will allow us to appropriately pay our staff, pay our speakers and event hosts, and to pay the creatives that we work with.

Our office is secured for a limited time. We need funds to secure it for the full year.

With our current funding, we are only able to host the internship program for one semester a year. Our goal is to host the program for both the Spring and Fall semesters.

Equity Statement

Our aim at Capitol Creative Alliance is to champion and inspire the creative community to build a thriving Sacramento Region. We create awareness of, and accessibility to, design paths and the regional workforce. We empower designers from different communities, identities, and experiences to create a stronger and more creative environment and build a network of mutuality. We believe that everyone is an expert based on their lived experiences, and we all have unique and illuminating contributions to bring to the creative process and our larger community. We implement free or sliding scale programming to include inclusive opportunities for underrepresented youth and emerging BIPOC and LGBTQ+ designers.

Our effectiveness depends on diverse partnerships, achieving just and equitable relationships that cultivate mutually respectful engagement. Internally, our organization takes the relational approach to our various initiatives: job placement, education and workforce programs, community outreach and networking. Promoting diversity both within and beyond CCA, in our leadership and in the members and partners we work with, is critical to upholding our values and achieving our goals toward a dynamic and equitable future.
