$20,000 Goal

The Bereavement Network Resources of Sacramento (BNRS) was founded 41 years ago by volunteers who felt the need to create a community of help for people who have suffered the loss of a loved one.  BNRS has made a strong contribution to the massive growth in bereavement care in our 4-county region [Sacramento, Yolo, El Dorado & Placer].

Our current services include:

-  Annual Publication of an updated Community Bereavement Resource Directory.  The Directory includes only free services that are available to anyone in the community. We print physical directories for our community partners to offer a physical resource to those they serve, but you can also view the directory on our website.

-  The BNRS website, which includes a Calendar of local bereavement events, information on grief and loss, and our Affiliates page with additional services for the community.

-  Telephone and Email help line.  Our Volunteers direct grieving people to free services in the community, both in person and online.

-  The BNRS is co-sponsoring Quarterly Networking and Educational meetings for professionals and volunteers who offer care and support for the bereaved.  Our most recent event, in January 2026, was attended by over 70 people, representing over a dozen local agencies.

New this year:

- We are hosting our first annual Good Grief Gala - Dîner en Blanc on Saturday, August 29, 2026!

This evening of connection, storytelling, and reflection creates a safe, stigma-free space for professionals to process secondary and accumulated grief, share experiences, and strengthen bonds within their community. By addressing the often-unmet emotional toll faced by caregivers, healthcare workers, first responders, and other community professionals, the gala supports mental health resilience, workforce retention, and overall community well-being, honoring those who form the backbone of Sacramento’s service community.

+ Every attendee will receive 3 months of 24/7 grief support with certified counselors at the Compassion Helpline® services provided by Charles Nechtem Associates, Inc.

We are currently looking for sponsors, volunteers, grief support vendors, and silent auction/raffle prize donations.

No donation is too small. If you, or someone you love, has been touched by grief while supporting others through trauma and loss, we invite you to join us. If you'd like to offer support to the helpers in our communities, we will be grateful to expand grief support in Greater Sacramento with your contribution.

Giving Activity

Mission

The purpose of BNRS is to refer bereaved members of the community to an appropriate support group. The BNRS also seeks to bring together Bereavement professionals on a quarterly basis for networking and educational meetings.

Our Community Bereavement Directory is revised and published annually. It is the best source for current information about free bereavement services provided to the entire 4-county region.

Our website features a digital version of the Directory which is available to be downloaded.

Needs

The BNRS is hosting the Good Grief Gala on August 29, 2026. Please click on the In-Person event link below for more details. The event is in support of professionals who experience loss in their work environments. We are seeking Sponsors for this event to defray the costs for participants. Your consideration is appreciated. Click on the Registration link to go to our website for sponsorship information.

The BNRS seeks donations to support our ongoing mission to educate the public about local bereavement services. Our expenses are minimal, consisting of a phone mail system, website management and materials/postage costs when we send information to the general public. We do not have either an office or any paid staff, being managed in full by a volunteer Board.

We send out our new Directories annually to over 400 individuals and agencies who serve the bereaved, including local hospices, mental health facilities, funeral homes, schools, churches, community organizations and volunteer programs.

We respond by phone, email and online to hundreds of information requests annually.

Equity Statement

The BNRS is fully committed to access to services for all persons, regardless of ethnicity, religious background, language, country of origin or other individual characteristics.

We actively seek out programs that offer help to underserved populations so that we can advertise them in our Directory.

Part of our equity commitment is to insist that only free services, open to the entire 4-county region, are listed in our Directory.
