$25,000 Goal

In 2018, following the completion of the Creative Edge Culture Plan, Friends was established in order to take a lead role in the number one goal of the Culture Plan - arts education.  The Arts Education goal is to ensure that every PreK-12th grade child in Sacramento County public schools experiences the arts as a patron and a participant.  Friends of Sacramento Arts, along with an Arts Education Consortium, are committed to be the leaders in funding the arts education initiative.  The Arts Education Consortium is comprised of the Mayor's office, City of Sacramento's Office of Arts and Culture, Sacramento Region Community Foundation, Sacramento County Office of Education, and the thirteen Sacramento County school districts.

Mission

Friends of Sacramento Arts will ensure equitable access to comprehensive arts education in K-12 public schools

OUR VALUES

Strategic – We make decisions based on our mission, vision and values.

Collaborative – We build meaningful partnerships with allied individuals and organizations to maximize mission fulfillment.

Equitable – We work to reduce the current documented inequities in the provision of arts education.

Transformative– We choose endeavors that focus on the positive, life-changing power of the arts in public schools.

Inclusive – We create and integrate intentional belonging in all endeavors, both internal and external.

Needs

Ensuring arts education every day for every child in every school requires education and activation of the key influencers in public education and the arts to effect permanent education reform for equitable access to the arts at all grade levels.

In 2023-24, Friends of Sacramento Arts needs philanthropic support to:

1. PROPOSITION 28 IMPLEMENTATION: Work with the statewide education leaders, the local leaders in the 14 K-12 public school districts in Sacramento, Yolo, Placer and El Dorado counties and the arts community to facilitate equitable distribution of funds from Proposition 28, the Arts and Music in Schools fund approved on the November 2022 ballot.

2) HEROES OF ARTS EDUCATION: on March 14, 2024, Friends is holding its 2nd annual event to recognize and honor arts teachers and artists who are making an impact in the lives of school children through arts education. The honorees will be from the local and regional school districts. The event will also highlight school children and groups presenting their art form through music, dance, theater, spoken word and fine arts.

3) Friends is collaborating with local, regional and statewide organizations to address the critical need for arts educators ready to be hired and work in schools. This collaboration includes coordinating and distributing continuing education opportunities for artists and teachers to enter the workforce as trained, qualified arts teachers for classrooms.

With your generous support, Friends of Sacramento Arts will fulfill these goals in 2023-24 to serve the TK-12 public school students in the greater Sacramento region.
