Lincoln Hills Foundation

The Lincoln Hills Foundation is celebrating its 21st year! Organized in 2002, the Lincoln Hills Foundation is a non-profit, tax exempt, corporation founded and funded by residents of Sun City Lincoln Hills. The primary objective of the Foundation is to support seniors in the Lincoln community by providing funds to established senior assistance organizations or through Foundation-operated service programs. Since its beginning, the Foundation has issued over $850,000 in grants to assistance groups and non-profit organizations for the physical, health, and maintenance of independent living needs of seniors. While initially established to meet just the needs of the senior residents of Sun City Lincoln Hills, the Foundation's vision expanded in 2008 to include all seniors in Lincoln and the local community of Sheridan.

In support of this expanded vision, the Foundation has provided funds to such organizations as Del Oro Caregivers Resource Center, The Salt Mine, and Seniors First/Meals on Wheels to name only a few.

As a part of its vision for meeting real, practical needs of seniors, the Foundation continues to increase its involvement and support of caregiver groups. We recognized a need to further meet the needs of Alzheimer's/Dementia caregivers, and to support “senior orphans” who have short term care needs due to illness or surgery.

Over the past several years the Foundation broadened its support in the community by funding a grant in partnership with the Lincoln Police Department. The program, called “Project Lifesaver,” uses state–of-the-art technology to assist in location, recovery and safe return of persons with Alzheimer’s, Dementia, Autism or other such disorders. This type of technology not only helps track individuals and return them home safely in minimal time, but also benefits communities by significantly cutting down on deployment of, and the time spent by local law enforcement and rescue operations in widespread searches.

The Lincoln Hills Foundation is proud to be the community's most consistent supporter of The Salt Mine, a Lincoln–based organization that provides food as well as personal items to those in need.  At the end of 2021 The Salt Mine was forced to purchase a new truck due to changes in California regulations. This was a significant and unexpected expense and the Lincoln Hills Foundation stepped in with a $50,000 special grant to relieve the burden of this debt and cover the cost of the truck loan, allowing the Salt Mine to focus on providing the support needed. The rising cost of fuel this past year was a need that was met by providing $25 gas cards for seniors in need.

Transportation is a huge issue for seniors. Many are unable to drive or have stopped driving and getting around can be challenging. A Foundation grant provides reduced cost transportation coupons through a Dial-a-Ride program, with the Foundation subsidizing the cost of rides within the city of Lincoln.

Grants do not have to be large to make an impact. The Foundation also underwrites the cost of CPR/First Aid classes, large print books and digital literacy training for the local library and funding for support or awareness groups in Sun City Lincoln Hills.
