Do you dream of a world where Black minds, hearts, and bodies are free? A world where Black people have access to deep rest, joy, liberation and peace? This is exactly what we are aiming to create at Holding Space, a nonprofit dedicated to improving the emotional health and well-being of Black people in Sacramento and beyond.

Through providing daylong healing retreats, we strive to cultivate a safe space that restores Black humanity, while reminding our people of their inherent dignity, worth, value, strength, and belonging.  With deep awareness of the link between oppression and mental health, we help Black clients heal current and intergenerational trauma generated by race-based stress, by partnering with Black holistic wellness practitioners. At our daylong retreats, we offer the following services: psychotherapy, psychoeducation, yoga, mindfulness & meditation, African drumming, African dance, sound healing, art therapy, acupuncture, & nutritional counseling.

We believe that, by offering an integrative holistic approach to care for underserved communities that is culturally affirming, African-centered and targets the mind, body, and spirit, we will move the needle in combating racial trauma and promoting healing at the individual & community levels. We hope you will support us in our mission to make a future of internal peace and liberation possible.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we at Holding Space are dedicated to being a catalyst for change by improving the emotional health and wellbeing for people of African descent in our community.  Our heart-centered healing practices recognize the need for tenderness and compassion in response to the wounds of racial trauma that have been passed down through generations. We also believe that culture and community are the medicine that help Black people heal.

Mission

Our mission is to improve the emotional health and well-being of people of African descent by providing a wide range of services that are holistic, culturally competent, trauma-informed, and strength based.

Needs

We are deeply committed to providing a safe space for Black souls to find refuge and engage in transformational healing.

Healing racial trauma requires loving, authentic, and nurturing hands to help restore Black humanity.

To fulfill our mission to offer holistic healing, we need your help.

Your generosity will support us in offering our community based daylong healing retreats. Our daylong healing retreats provide attendees the opportunity to slow down & engage in heart-centered & liberation-focused practices, including meditation, yoga, African dance, African drumming, and sound healing.

Equity Statement

At Holding Space, we are committed to fostering kinship, building connections, and creating community. Therefore, our emphasis is on healing for all people of African descent, and we welcome Black people of all intersectionalities, including sexual orientations, gender identities, religious backgrounds and abilities.
