Seems expensive, why horses?
Equine therapy as a valuable therapy tool that can initiate powerfully psychological healing in 'unusually short periods of time." - T. Hayes
One therapist told us: "What you accomplished in 20 minutes would have taken me 2 years!"
Another therapist said "My client told you more in 8 weeks, than she did over 3 years in talk therapy."
Horses have a unique and quick ability to unexpectedly expose and remove "masks" and false pretenses. It is the horses' nature to "size you up" as part of their innate nature for security. Horses want to know: Are you safe? Are you going to hurt me? Can you be trusted? Can I push your boundaries? Will you push mine? For many of our participants, they have the exact same questions.
SPONSOR A HORSE: Many of Hearts Landing's horses have been rescued from slaughter, abandonment, abuse, or neglect. Each horse has their own story as do each individual who comes for our Equine Programs. The horses act as a mirror and unlocks emotions and words between human and horse that often times the Participant didn't know was buried or felt too vulnerable to share to another human. These equines, once broken, lost, and hurting, are now loved on and cared for on by youth who have been through many similar circumstances. The experiences of the horses give them the ability to reach out to Participants in a unique way.
Sponsor part of horse's needs horse $5.00 or $500 a month is a meaningful investment to our work. Horses are a huge part of the therapy team -
For the many equines who call this place home, Hearts Landing offers a safe haven, a gentle hand, and a life purpose. Our training and riding methods are based on natural horsemanship, which utilize quietness and patience to communicate with horses in their own language. It is our aim to develop trusting relationships with these magnificent creatures.
COVERED THERAPY SPACE & OFFICE: Funding helps us build and maintain new and existing therapy spaces to use for Sessions with clients. We work year around and continuity for clients is HUGE. We need multiple covered Session arenas. We want to offer services regardless of heat, wind or rain. Also, our office is a converted 12x12 Tuff Shed and is very busy with 5 or 6 of us working in there because its the only AC!
Goals:
Cover for Round Pen 62'x62'
Covered Arena 100 x 60 minimum
Therapy Office and Training Building
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: Hearts Landing has been 100% volunteer run since 2013 and in 2021 we hired our first employee. Volunteers help us do more than we could alone. Volunteers help us focus on providing our mental health program by becoming "poop-ologists" helping with horse care; they help us make popcorn and cotton candy as they engage with the community at our movie nights and other events; volunteers provide countless of hours to help garden, weed wack and repairing pipes and fences and other things needed throughout the year to keep our best foot forward.
Please check out our webpage for specific gifts and talents needed. Our volunteer application is under "get involved" tab.
CONTINUING EDUCATION: Invest in HLR ongoing Trauma Training and EAGALA & PATH Certifications.
Goals:
2 PATH Scholarships ($2,500)
2 PATH Scholarships in Therapeutic Driving ($2,500)
2 EGALA Scholarships Equine Specialist ($2,500 per scholarship + travel)
"I drove a tractor, man... I also rode a little pony chariot thing-a-ma-jingy. Personally, I like this place the most. I enjoy specific kind of hard work and labor, and this fits what I like doing." - W. Ingle
