The staff at CapRadio would like to thank everyone in the community who has supported us during our financial crisis. Thank you for believing in us! We are excited to share that since September of last year, we have stabilized our finances and core operations, implemented internal controls, improved audience services and significantly grown listenership and membership contributions.

CapRadio is a purpose-bound, mission-driven organization. We exist to create more informed, involved and educated communities. This clarity and focus is our driving force as we place a renewed emphasis on our public service mission. Moving forward, we are prioritizing efforts to improve and expand important local services we deliver to our audiences, including:

*Timely on-air news content and local reporting;

*State government reporting to serve California communities;

*Coverage of local arts and culture community;

*Classical music and jazz broadcasting services; and

*Our SacramenKnow newsletter offering (sign up here).

2024 is a critical year for CapRadio. We are a leaner, more focused organization that is operating with great resolve to continue serving our community as a trusted and indispensable resource. And with the ongoing support of our community, we will continue to earn back your trust and serve you better.

While our finances and operations are in a much better position than eight months ago, there is more for us to address. But we are a different organization now. With a new board of directors and senior leadership team, we are committed to building a reliable, transparent and sustainable organization.

Thank you for supporting the future of public radio in our region. With nearly 70% of our funding now coming from people like you, our community has been instrumental in making sure that public media has a bright future in Sacramento and beyond.

Mission

To create more informed, involved and educated communities.

Needs

Local Journalism: As local and independent newsrooms across the country are threatened by a lack of resources, corporate buyouts and challenges created by disinformation, CapRadio is committed to addressing the gaps in community coverage.

Insight: Insight empowers local communities to navigate their daily lives with a sense of place and connection, providing listeners with deep contextual background and understanding on breaking news, big events, politics and culture. As a live, daily show, it elevates diverse voices and local perspectives through conversations with community leaders and advocates, local and national experts, artists and more.

NPR Programming: NPR shows — such as All Things Considered and Morning Edition — take listeners around the country and the world with multi-faceted stories and interviews that inform, challenge and amuse. This programming also includes insightful features on the quirky and the mainstream in arts and life, music and entertainment. Sharing these shows offers a diverse and engaging listening experience, connecting audiences to a broader perspective and fostering a more informed and culturally enriched community.

Music: We are committed to being the go-to source for music discovery in the region. Each day our music hosts curate classical and jazz playlists that provide inspiration, joy and respite for our audiences.

SacramenKnow: With an increased focus and expansion on diversifying our local news and information offerings, CapRadio developed and launched the SacramenKnow newsletter. The newsletter provides a more personal and digestible way to stay informed, involved and entertained in the Sacramento region.

Equity Statement

In order to strengthen the civic and cultural life of the communities we serve, CapRadio must reflect and represent those communities, their diverse perspectives and their unique experiences. We must continue to elevate the voices of those traditionally underrepresented and marginalized, share different thoughts and viewpoints and welcome authenticity.

To shape the future of CapRadio, we are committed to advancing equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in our work and thinking. As we begin this effort, we must look both internally and externally in order to make meaningful progress toward this goal.

We are working to create a thriving company culture that breaks down barriers, empowers staff and embraces varying perspectives. We are prioritizing efforts to understand our communities and their needs. We are building the infrastructure required to serve all our audiences better. And we are making advances in documenting our efforts to measure progress.

These steps are just the beginning. This is an ongoing process, and we recognize that we still have much to do. We know this work is essential to serving our communities, and we are grateful for your support as we continue on this journey.
